Amforă
Amfora este un tip de recipient cu o formă și o dimensiune caracteristică, care coboară cel puțin încă din perioada neolitică. Amforele au fost folosite în număr mare pentru transportul și depozitarea diferitelor produse, lichide și uscate, dar mai ales pentru vin. Este cel mai adesea ceramică, dar s-au găsit exemple în metale și alte materiale. Amfora completează containerul de depozitare mare, pithos, care face disponibilități între jumătate și două și jumătate de tone. Dimpotrivă, amforele dețin o jumătate de tonă, de obicei mai puțin de 100 de kilograme. Corpurile celor două tipuri au forme similare. În cazul în care pithos poate avea mai multe bucle mici sau lugs pentru a fixa un ham de frânghie, amphora are două mânere expansive care unește umerii corpului și un gât lung. Gâturile pithoi sunt largi pentru accesul în bucătărie sau găleată. Gâturile amforelor sunt înguste pentru turnarea de către o persoană care o ține de fund și de un mâner. Există variante. Este posibil ca mânerele să nu fie prezente. Mărimea poate necesita ridicarea a două sau a trei manipulatoare.
