O limbă de asamblare este un limbaj de programare de nivel scăzut pentru un computer sau alt dispozitiv programabil, în care există o corespondență foarte puternică între instrucțiunile de limbaj și instrucțiunile codului mașinii. Fiecare limbă de asamblare este specifică unei anumite arhitecturi de calculatoare, spre deosebire de majoritatea limbajelor de programare la nivel înalt, care sunt în general portabile pe mai multe arhitecturi, dar necesită interpretare sau compilare. Limbajul de asamblare este convertit în codul mașinii executabile printr-un program utilitar denumit asamblare; procesul de conversie este denumit asamblare sau asamblarea codului. Limbajul de asamblare utilizează un mnemonic pentru a reprezenta fiecare instrucțiune sau operație la nivel scăzut. Operațiile tipice necesită unul sau mai mulți operanzi pentru a forma o instrucțiune completă și majoritatea asamblorilor pot deci să ia etichete, simboluri și expresii ca operanzi pentru a reprezenta adrese și alte constante, eliberând programatorul de calcule manuale greoaie.
