Barăcile erau inițial un adăpost temporar sau o cabană, dar acum sunt mai bine cunoscute ca clădiri specializate pentru cazare militară permanentă; cuvântul se poate aplica blocurilor de locuințe separate sau pentru completarea complexelor.
