Cataplexia este un episod brusc și tranzitoriu de slăbiciune musculară, însoțit de o conștiență totală conștientă, de obicei declanșată de emoții cum ar fi râsul, plânsul, teroarea etc. Este simptomul cardinal al narcolepsiei cu cataplexie care afectează aproximativ 70% dintre persoanele care suferă de narcolepsie; este cauzata de o distrugere autoimuna a hypocretinului neurotransmitator, care regleaza excitatia si starea de veghe. Cataplexia fără narcolepsie este rară și cauza este necunoscută. Termenul cataplexie provine din limba greacă, și πλησίς.
