Constituţie
Constituția este un set de principii fundamentale sau precedente stabilite conform cărora un stat sau o altă organizație este guvernat. Aceste reguli împreună alcătuiesc, adică constituie, ce este entitatea. Atunci când aceste principii sunt înscrise într-un singur document sau într-un set de acte juridice, se poate spune că acele documente constituie o constituție scrisă; dacă acestea sunt scrise într-un singur document cuprinzător, se spune că întruchipează o constituție codificată. Constituțiile se referă la diferite niveluri de organizații, de la state suverane la companii și asociații neîncorporate. Un tratat care instituie o organizație internațională este, de asemenea, constituția sa, prin faptul că ar defini modul în care este constituită această organizație. În interiorul statelor, o constituție definește principiile pe care se bazează statul, procedura în care sunt făcute legile și de către cine. Unele constituții, în special constituțiile codificate, acționează și ca limitatori ai puterii de stat, prin stabilirea unor linii pe care conducătorii unui stat nu le pot trece, cum ar fi drepturile fundamentale. Un exemplu este constituirea Statelor Unite ale Americii.
