Un sfert sau un crotchet este o notă jucată pentru un sfert din durata unei note întregi. Adesea, muzicienii vor spune că un crotchet este un ritm, cu toate acestea, acest lucru nu este întotdeauna corect, deoarece ritmul este indicat de semnarea timpului muzicii; un sfert de notă poate sau nu poate fi bate.
