Criptă
În arhitectură, o criptă este o cameră de piatră sau o boltă de sub podeaua unei bolți de îngropare care poate conține sarcofage, sicrie sau relicve. Inițial, criptele au fost găsite în mod obișnuit sub absida principală a unei biserici, cum ar fi la mănăstirea Saint-Germain en Auxerre, dar mai târziu au fost localizate sub nave și transepte. Ocazional, bisericile au fost ridicate la înălțime pentru a găzdui o criptă la nivelul solului, cum ar fi Biserica Sf. Mihail din Hildesheim, Germania.
