Un designer este o persoană care proiectează. Mai formal, un designer este un agent care "specifică proprietățile structurale ale unui obiect de proiectare". În practică, oricine creează obiecte tangibile sau necorporale, cum ar fi produsele de consum, procesele, legile, jocurile și grafica, este denumit designer. Cu complexitatea din ce în ce mai mare a societății de astăzi și datorită nevoilor producției în masă în care mai mult timp este asociat de obicei cu costuri mai mari, metodele de producție au devenit mai complexe și, împreună cu ele, au fost create modelele și producția lor. Zonele clasice sunt acum împărțite în domenii mai mici și mai specializate de proiectare în funcție de produsul proiectat sau, probabil, de mijloacele sale de producție.

Prima definiție a designerului în dicționar este o persoană care proiectează și execută desene sau modele, ca și pentru opere de artă, haine, mașini etc. O altă definiție a designerului este concepută și purtând eticheta sau semnătura unui cunoscut designer de modă. Designer are, de asemenea, o aparență de trendiness la modă.
