Embrion
Un embrion este un eucariot diploid multicelulare în stadiul incipient de dezvoltare, de la prima diviziune celulară până la naștere, ecloziune sau germinare. La om, se numește embrion până la opt săptămâni după fertilizare și de atunci se numește făt. Dezvoltarea embrionului se numește embriogeneză. În organismele care reproduc sexual, odată ce sperma fertilizează o celulă de ou, rezultatul este o celulă numită zigot, care posedă jumătate din ADN-ul fiecăruia dintre cei doi părinți ai săi. În plante, animale și unele antisturi, zigotul va începe să se împartă prin mitoză pentru a produce un organism multicelulare. Rezultatul acestui proces este un embrion.
