Aggadah se referă la textele exegetice homiletice și non-legaliste din literatura clasică rabinică a iudaismului, în special așa cum sunt înregistrate în Talmud și Aggadh (aramaică אַגָּדָה: povești, lore, pl. Aggadot sau (askenazi) aggados Midrash. În general, Aggadah este un compendiu de omilii rabinice care încorporează folclor, anecdote istorice, exorții morale și sfaturi practice în diverse sfere, de la afaceri la medicină. În ceea ce privește etimologia, ebraica asemănătoare: הַגָּדָה înseamnă "a spune", în timp ce rădăcina aramaică אגד (precum și נגד din care ar putea apărea) are dubla implicare a "extinderii" / "desprinderii" și "legării" / "Desen". În mod corespunzător, Aggadahul poate fi văzut ca acele învățături care comunică cititorilor rabinice, extindându-și simultan înțelegerea textului, consolidând în același timp experiența lor religioasă și conexiunea spirituală. Rădăcina are și sensul "flux", iar aici se referă la transmiterea de idei.
