Capra (genul)
Capra este un gen de mamifere, capre sau capre sălbatice, alcătuit din până la nouă specii, inclusiv capra sălbatică, markhorul și câteva specii cunoscute sub denumirea de ibex. Capra domestică este o subspecie domesticită a caprei sălbatice. Dovezile despre domesticirea caprinelor datează de peste 8500 de ani. Caprele sălbatice sunt animale de habitate montane. Sunt foarte agili și rezistenți, capabili să urce pe stâncă goală și să supraviețuiască pe o vegetație insuficientă. Ele pot fi deosebite de genul Ovis, care include ovinele, prin prezența glandelor parfumate aproape de picioare, în zona inghinală și în fața ochilor și absența altor glande faciale și prin prezența unei barbe la bărbați, și la calusele fără păr pe genunchii anteriori. Capra Rocky Mountain se află într-un gen separat, Oreamnos.
