Individualismul este poziția morală, filozofia politică, ideologia sau perspectiva socială care subliniază valoarea morală a individului. Individualii promovează exercitarea obiectivelor și dorințelor lor și prețuiesc astfel independența și încrederea în sine și susțin că interesele individului ar trebui să obțină prioritate față de stat sau un grup social, în timp ce se opun intervenției externe a intereselor proprii de către societate sau instituții precum Guvern. Individualismul face ca individul să se concentreze și astfel începe "cu premisa fundamentală că individul uman are o importanță primordială în lupta pentru eliberare". Liberalismul, existențialismul și anarhismul sunt exemple de mișcări care iau omul ca o unitate centrală de analiză. Individualismul implică astfel "dreptul individului la libertate și la realizarea de sine".
