Irak (/ ɪræk /, i / ɪrɑːk /, or / aɪræk /; Arabă: العراق al-'Irāq), oficial Republica Irak (Jimbolă راماری عێراق Komar-i'Kraq), este o tara din Orientul Mijlociu care se invecineaza cu Turcia la nord, cu Iranul spre est, cu Kuweit spre sud-est, Arabia Saudita spre sud, Iordan spre sud-vest si Siria spre vest. Capitala, Bagdad, se află în centrul țării. Aproximativ 97% din 36.000.000 de persoane din țară sunt musulmani, în principal șii, sunni și etnici kurzi. Irakul are o secțiune îngustă de coastă de 58 km (36 mi) în Golful Persic nordic, iar teritoriul său cuprinde Câmpia aluvionară Mesopotamică, capătul nord-vestic al lanțului de munte Zagros și partea estică a deșertului sirian. Două fluviuri majore, Tigris și Eufrat, merg spre sud prin centrul Irakului și curg spre Shatt al-Arab în apropierea Golfului Persic.
