Acer / eɪsər / este un gen de arbori sau arbuști cunoscuți sub denumirea de arțar. Maplele sunt clasificate diferit într-o familie proprie, Aceraceae, sau împreună cu Hippocastanaceae incluse în familia Sapindaceae. Clasificările moderne, incluzând sistemul de grupări Phylogeny Angiosperm, favorizează includerea în Sapindaceae. Specia de tip din genul este Acer pseudoplatanus. Există aproximativ 128 de specii, dintre care majoritatea sunt originare din Asia, cu un număr care apare și în Europa, Africa de Nord și America de Nord.
