Pendent este un adjectiv care descrie starea de agățare, fie literal, fie figurativ, ca și în cazul în care este nedecis sau incomplet. A se distinge de ortografia "pandantiv", care este substantivul. ▪ În botanică și anatomie termenul se aplică pentru agățarea unor forme de organe, cum ar fi frunze, ramuri, membre și altele asemenea, care altfel ar putea fi rigide sau erecte. ▪ În diferite sensuri, cum ar fi chestiunile legale, pendentul poate însemna "în așteptare" sau condiționat de evoluțiile viitoare. ▪ În gramatică, o propoziție pendentă este incompletă într-un sens formal, de exemplu lipsind un verb finit.
