Filistenii erau un popor descris în Biblia ebraică, despre care se spune că a condus cele cinci orașe-state din Gaza, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Ekron și Gath, de la Wadi Gaza la sud până la râul Yarqon din nord, dar fără graniță fixă spre est. Potrivit lui Israel Finkelstein, cercetările arheologice de până acum nu au reușit să confirme o așezare masivă a filistenilor în epoca lui Ramesses III.
