Text simplu
În calcul, textul simplu este conținutul unui fișier secvențial obișnuit care poate fi citit ca material textual fără prea multă prelucrare. Textul simplu este diferit de textul formatat, unde sunt incluse informații despre stil și "fișierele binare" în care unele porțiuni trebuie interpretate ca obiecte binare. Codificarea a fost, în mod tradițional, fie ASCII, unul dintre numeroasele sale instrumente derivate, cum ar fi ISO / IEC 646 etc. sau, uneori, EBCDIC. Codificările bazate pe unicode, cum ar fi UTF-8 și UTF-16, înlocuiesc treptat derivații mai vechi ASCII limitați la codurile de 7 sau 8 biți.
