Poligamie
Poligamia este o căsătorie care include mai mult de doi parteneri. Când un bărbat este căsătorit cu mai multe soții la un moment dat, relația se numește poligină; și când o femeie este căsătorită cu mai mult de un soț la un moment dat, se numește polandrie. Dacă o căsătorie include mai mulți soți și soții, se poate numi căsătorie de grup sau de conjoint. Termenul este folosit în moduri conexe în antropologia socială, sociologia, precum și în discursul popular. În contrast, monogamia este o căsătorie formată din numai două părți. Ca și monogamie, termenul poligamie este adesea folosit într-un sens de facto, aplicat indiferent dacă relația este recunoscută de stat. În sociobiologie și zoologie, poligamia este folosită într-un sens larg pentru a semnifica orice formă de împerechere multiplă. Singura formă în care poligamia este recunoscută legal în țările care o fac, este pentru un bărbat să ia mai multe neveste. În acele țări care nu permit poligamia, o persoană care se căsătorește cu oa doua persoană, în timp ce se căsătorește în mod legal, comite infracțiunea de bigamie. În contextul global, acceptarea poligamiei este obișnuită.

The state's interest in marriage is stability. Generally speaking, polygamy does not work for stability. Inherent in the whole polygamous movement is a deep and abiding misogyny and denigration of women. So polygamy is objectionable on lots of grounds.
The government doesn't really prosecute for polygamy anymore, but a lot of the arrests are of groups supporting themselves through welfare scams or for child abuse. So that was all I'd really heard about polygamists.
