Sergentul este un rang folosit într-o anumită formă de majoritatea militarilor, forțelor de poliție și a altor organizații uniformizate din întreaga lume. Originile sale sunt slujitorii latini, "cel care slujește", prin termenul francez sergent. În majoritatea armatelor, rangul de sergent este clasificat de NATO ca OR-5 și corespunde comenzii unei echipe.
