Pronunția cuvântului sitar: sɪtɑr / este un instrument cu coarde cu coarde folosit în principal în muzica Hindustani și în muzica clasică indiană. Instrumentul a coborât dintr-un instrument persan similar, dar simplu, numit Setar și predecesorul său Dutar. Sitar a înflorit în secolele 16 și 17 și a ajuns în forma sa actuală în India din secolul al XVIII-lea.
