Snowshoe iepure
Îmbrăcămintea de snowshoe, denumită și iepurele variabilă sau iepurele cu snowshoe, este o specie de iepure găsită în America de Nord. Are numele de "snowshoe" din cauza dimensiunilor mari ale picioarelor posterioare și a marcajelor coada frunzelor. Picioarele animalului îl împiedică să se scufunde în zăpadă când coboară și merge. Picioarele sale au, de asemenea, blană pe tălpi pentru ao proteja de temperaturi de îngheț. Pentru camuflaj, blana lui devine albă în timpul iernii și maro ruginit în timpul verii. Flancurile sale sunt albe pe tot parcursul anului. Îmbrăcămintea de snowshoe este, de asemenea, deosebită de smocurile negre de blană de la marginea urechilor. Urechile sale sunt mai scurte decât cele ale celor mai mulți iepuri. În timpul verii, se hrănește cu plante precum iarbă, ferigi și frunze; iarna, mănâncă crengi, scoarța copacilor și mugurii din flori și plante și, asemănător celui din Arctica, se știe că fura carnea din capcanele cu bătăi. Urandușii sunt carnivori sub rezerva existenței animalelor moarte și s-au cunoscut că mănâncă rozătoare moarte, cum ar fi șoarecii, datorită disponibilității reduse a proteinelor într-o dietă erbivoră. Se poate observa câteodată hrană în grupuri mici. Acest animal este în principal activ pe timp de noapte și nu hibernează.
