Ciulin
Thistle este denumirea comună a unui grup de plante înflorite caracterizate prin frunze cu țarcuri ascuțite pe margini, mai ales în familia Asteraceae. Prăjele se întâmplă adesea peste tot pe planta - pe suprafețe precum cele ale tulpinii și părțile plate ale frunzelor. Acestea sunt o adaptare care protejează planta împotriva animalelor erbivore, descurajându-i să se hrănească cu planta. În mod obișnuit, un involucru cu o formă de cuplare a unei pahare sau urne împovărează fiecare dintre florile de cireadă. Termenul de ciulin este uneori considerat exact acele plante din tribul Cynareae, în special genurile Carduus, Cirsium și Onopordum. Cu toate acestea, plantele din afara acestui trib sunt uneori numite "thistles", iar dacă se face acest lucru, ciorile ar forma un grup polifiletic. Thistle este emblema florală a Scoției.
