Urdu (/ ʊərduː /; urdu: اردو ALA-LC: Urd; IPA: (asculta)), sau mai exact Modern Standard Urdu, este un registru standardizat al limbii Hindustani. Urdu este asociat istoric cu musulmanii din regiunea Hindustan. Este limbajul național și lingua franca din Pakistan, și o limbă oficială a șase state indiene și una dintre cele 22 de limbi programate din Constituția Indiei. În afară de vocabularul specializat, Urdu se înțelege reciproc cu Standard Hindi, care este asociat cu comunitatea hindusă. De la sfârșitul perioadei Mughal din secolul al XIX-lea, soiurile de Hindustani au fost lingua franca pentru o mare parte din Asia de Sud.

We recognised Urdu as the second official language and made it a medium of examination in all Bihar Public Service Commission tests.
