Virtual reality

Realitatea virtuală, uneori numită multimedia imersivă, este un mediu simulat pe calculator, care poate simula prezența fizică în locuri în lumea reală sau în lumile imaginate. Realitatea virtuală poate reda experiențe senzoriale, inclusiv gustul virtual, vederea, mirosul, sunetul, atingerea etc. Cele mai actuale medii de realitate virtuală sunt în primul rând experiențe vizuale, afișate fie pe ecranul unui computer, fie prin afișaje stereoscopice speciale, dar unele simulări includ informații senzoriale suplimentare , cum ar fi sunetul prin difuzoare sau căști. Unele sisteme avansate, haptice includ acum informații tactile, cunoscute în general ca reacții de forță în aplicații medicale, jocuri și militare. În plus, realitatea virtuală acoperă medii de comunicare la distanță care asigură prezența virtuală a utilizatorilor cu conceptele telepresenței și telexistenței sau cu un artefact virtual, fie prin utilizarea unor dispozitive standard de intrare, cum ar fi o tastatură și mouse, fie prin dispozitive multimodale, cum ar fi o mănușă cu fir, Polhemus și treadmills omnidirecționale.

Virtual reality, sometimes referred to as immersive multimedia, is a computer-simulated environment that can simulate physical presence in places in the real world or imagined worlds. Virtual reality could recreate sensory experiences, including virtual taste, sight, smell, sound, touch, etc. Most current virtual reality environments are primarily visual experiences, displayed either on a computer screen or through special stereoscopic displays, but some simulations include additional sensory information, such as sound through speakers or headphones. Some advanced, haptic systems now include tactile information, generally known as force feedback in medical, gaming and military applications. Furthermore, virtual reality covers remote communication environments which provide virtual presence of users with the concepts of telepresence and telexistence or a virtual artifact either through the use of standard input devices such as a keyboard and mouse, or through multimodal devices such as a wired glove, the Polhemus, and omnidirectional treadmills.
