Ploceidae, sau țesătorii, sunt mici păsări passerine legate de cuișoare. Acestea sunt păsări care mănâncă semințe cu facturi conice rotunjite, dintre care cele mai multe sunt din Africa Subsahariană, cu mai puține specii în Asia tropicală. Câteva specii au fost introduse în afara gamei lor natale. Grupul de țesător este împărțit în țesătorii de bivoli, vrabi, tipici și văduvi. Bărbații din mai multe specii sunt colorați în culori vii, de obicei în roșu sau galben și negru, unele specii prezintă variații de culoare numai în sezonul de reproducere. Păsările de țesut, cunoscute și sub denumirea de țesătoare de țesut, își primesc numele datorită cuiburilor elaborate, deși unele sunt notabile pentru obiceiurile lor de cuibăriri parazitare selective. Cuiburile variază în funcție de dimensiune, formă, material utilizat și tehnici de construcție de la specie la specie. Materialele folosite pentru construirea cuiburilor includ fibre fine de frunze, iarbă și crengi. Multe specii țese cuiburi foarte fine folosind fire subțiri de fibră de frunze, deși unii, ca și bienaliștii, formează în coloniile lor cuiburi masive necorespunzătoare, care pot avea cuiburi sferice țesute în interiorul lor.
