Lemn
Lemnul este o țesătură structurală fibroasă, găsită în tulpini și rădăcini de copaci și alte plante lemnoase. A fost folosit de mii de ani atât pentru combustibil, cât și ca material de construcție. Este un material organic, un compozit natural de fibre de celuloză înglobat într-o matrice de lignină care rezistă la comprimare. Lemnul este uneori definit ca doar xylem secundar în tulpinile copacilor sau este definit mai larg pentru a include același tip de țesut în altă parte, cum ar fi rădăcinile arborilor sau arbuștilor.
