Scabellum

The scabellum was an antique foot rattle consisting of two wooden or metal plates connected at the heel, which were worn like a sandal at the foot. Between the two plates was often a pair of smaller basins. In most cases, the instrument was used to accompany mimic dances in the theater. Das Scabellum war ein antiker Fußklapper, der aus zwei am Fersenteil miteinander verbundenen Holz- oder Metallplatten bestand, die wie eine Sandale am Fuß getragen wurden. Zwischen den beiden Platten war häufig ein Paar kleinerer Becken angebracht. Meist wurde das Instrument zur Begleitung mimischer Tänze im Theater gespielt.
