Breviary
A Breviary is a book of Catholic religious liturgy that includes the abbreviated set of religious public obligations of the clergy throughout the year and usually contained in a set of major works that constituted the so-called Books of Hours for each period of the year : Advent and Christmas, Lent and Easter and two books of the so-called ordinary time. In summary it includes the prayers, biblical readings and psalms that should be prayed or recited at different times of the day and according to the period of the year. The purpose is to accompany the obligation of the Mass, to which every Catholic is bound, with the public religious manifestation in the form of a prayer. The difference with prayer is given by the public or community character: the breviary is exposed and shared with others, while prayer is a private act. The first editions of breviaries were from the end of the eleventh century and were intended to facilitate the transportation of the Books of Hours to the clerics.
Definition of breviario in the Spanish dictionary
The first definition of breviary in the dictionary of the real academy of the Spanish language is a book that contains the ecclesiastical prayer of the whole year. Another meaning of breviary in the dictionary is epitomized. Breviary is also a nine-point cast, like the one used in the ancient impressions of the Roman breviary.
