Hosta

Hosta is a genus of herbaceous, perennial and rhizomatous plants belonging to the family Agavaceae, although it was traditionally included within a broad definition of Liliaceae. The genus includes about 40 species native to northeastern Asia. They are very popular plants in gardening, particularly for their foliage, generally yellowish green or bluish green. The name of the genus, which is also used as a common name to designate all species and hybrid cultivars, is dedicated to the botanist and Austrian physician N.T. Host. In the past they were sometimes known as "Lily Plantain", this name is currently in disuse. The Japanese name Giboshi is used in English in small circles.
