Jamba

The jamb is each of the two pieces of a span that arranged vertically, on both sides of the same, support a lintel, an arch or the archivolts placed on them. Usually, jambs are called to the lateral lateral walls of the door and window spans. Also a jamb is a pillar of stone or brick, located in the thickness of a wall, whose purpose is to consolidate and lock the pieces of the set. The jambs are usually made of masonry, brick or wood. The word jamba comes from the French language: jambe, which means leg, term used by the similarity of its supporting function. Stone pieces that form the jambs of a window.
