Embargo in international trade and politics, is the prohibition of trade and marketing with a particular country, as a punishment for the politicians, policies or acts of the embargoed country, but their economic nature frequently raises doubts about the real interests that the prohibition serves. One of the most complete attempts to embargo took place during the Napoleonic wars. In 1806, in an attempt to block the United Kingdom economically, the continental blockade system, which barred European nations from marketing with the United Kingdom, was created, but in practice was not completely enforced. It turned out to be, if not more, as damaging to the countries involved as to the British.
