măcél (măcéluri), s. n. – Masacru, omor. Origine îndoielnică. Ar putea reprezenta
lat. macĕllum (Pușcariu 1007),
cf. it. macello, prov. masel, v. fr. maisel; dar nu apare în texte vechi și nu este popular. După Tiktin și Candrea, împrumut literar, din
it. macello; această ipoteză ar fi plauzibilă, dacă s-ar presupune că cuvîntul următor, cu
suf. de agent, s-ar menține datorită cuvîntului simplu.
Der. măcelar, s. m. (casap), din
lat. macĕllarius (Pușcariu 1008; Candrea-Dens., 1035; lipsește în REW 5200),
cf. ngr. μαϰέλλάρης, de unde
alb. makjeljar, it. macellaio; măcelăresc, adj. (de măcelar), atestat la Radu Popescu, la începutul
sec. XVIII;
măcelăreasă, s. f. (nevasta măcelarului);
măcelări, vb. (a omorî, a extermina);
măcelărie, s. f. (magazin de carne).
