epistasis
L'épistasis est une forme d'interaction génétique. Il se produit lorsqu'un gène peut provoquer la suppression de l'expression phénotypique d'un autre gène. Le terme a été introduit en 1909 par William Bateson. Il y a l'épistasis dominante et récessive. Si un seul gène contrôle plusieurs caractéristiques phénotypiques, on parle de pleiotropie. Dans la définition plus générale du terme, l'épistasis signifie l'interaction des gènes entre les allèles à différents genroci. Ainsi, l'épistasis est un phénomène de variance génétique non additive, de sorte que les généticiens ne sont pas simplement un «mélange» des allèles de génération parentale. En d'autres termes, l'épistaison se produit exactement lorsque les effets de différents loci dépendent les uns des autres, de sorte que la covariance des contributions est différente de zéro. Ces effets d'interaction entraînent une variation supplémentaire entre la génération mère et la génération de branche.
