Apsis
Un apsis (grec ἁψίς, gen. Ἁψίδος), plusieurs apsides (/ æpsɨdiːz /; Greek: ἁψίδες), est un point de la plus grande ou la moins grande distance d'un corps dans une orbite elliptique autour d'un corps plus grand. Pour un corps en orbite autour du Soleil, les points les plus grands et les moins distants sont appelés respectivement aphélie et périhélie (/ æphiːliən /, / ˌpɛrɨhiːliən /), alors que pour tout satellite de Terre, y compris la Lune, les points correspondants sont apogee et perigee (/ pɛrɨdʒiː /). Le suffixe générique, indépendant du corps central particulier, peut être soit apsis, soit centre, donc apoapsis, apocentre ou apapsis (de ἀπ (ô) (ap (ó)), signifiant "from"), et periapsis ou pericentre (de περί (Peri), signifiant "around"). Au cours du programme Apollo, les termes pericynthion et apocynthion (faisant référence à Cynthia, un nom alternatif pour la déesse de la lune grecque Artemis) ont été utilisés lors de la référence à la Lune. Une ligne droite reliant le periapsis et l'apoapsis est la ligne d'apsides. C'est l'axe majeur de l'ellipse, son plus grand diamètre.
