Charles Babbage
Charles Babbage, FRS était un policier anglais. Il était un mathématicien, un philosophe, un inventeur et un ingénieur en mécanique, qui se souvient le mieux de l'origine du concept d'un ordinateur programmable. Considéré comme un «père de l'ordinateur», Babbage est crédité d'avoir inventé le premier ordinateur mécanique qui a finalement conduit à des conceptions plus complexes. Son travail varié dans d'autres domaines l'a amené à être qualifié de «prééminent» parmi les nombreuses législatures de son siècle. Des parties des mécanismes incomplets de Babbage sont exposées au London Science Museum. En 1991, un moteur de différence parfaitement fonctionnel a été construit à partir des plans originaux de Babbage. Construit aux tolérances réalisables au 19ème siècle, le succès du moteur fini a indiqué que la machine de Babbage aurait travaillé.
