Calebasse
La calebasse, Lagenaria siceraria, également appelée opo squash, gourde ou melon long, est une vigne cultivée pour ses fruits, qui peut être récoltée jeune et utilisée comme légume, ou récoltée mature, séchée et utilisée comme bouteille, L'ustensile ou le tuyau. Les fruits frais ont une peau lisse et légère et une chair blanche. Les variétés Rounder s'appellent les calebasses de calabash. Ils viennent dans une variété de formes, ils peuvent être énormes et arrondis, ou petits et en forme de bouteille, ou slim et serpentine, plus d'un mètre de long. La calebasse était l'une des premières plantes cultivées au monde, cultivées non principalement pour la nourriture, mais destinées à être utilisées comme récipient d'eau. La gourde de bouteille a peut-être été transportée d'Afrique vers l'Asie, l'Europe et les Amériques au cours de la migration humaine, ou par des semences flottant à travers les océans à l'intérieur de la gourde.
