La controverse est un état de débat ou de débat public prolongé, généralement en ce qui concerne une question d'opinion conflictuelle ou un point de vue. Le mot a été inventé de la controverse latine, en tant que composé de controverses - "tourné dans une direction opposée", contre contre "contre" - et vertere - pour tourner, ou contre, par conséquent, "se retourner".
