Didactisme
La didactique est une philosophie qui met l'accent sur les qualités pédagogiques et informatives dans la littérature et d'autres types d'art. Le terme a son origine dans le mot grec ancien διδακτικός, «lié à l'éducation et à l'enseignement», et a signifié l'apprentissage d'une manière fascinante et intrigante. L'art didactique était à la fois pour divertir et pour instruire. Les jeux didactiques, par exemple, visaient à véhiculer un thème moral ou une autre grande vérité au public. Un exemple d'écriture didactique est l'analyse d'une critique de Alexander Pope, qui offre une gamme de conseils sur les critiques et les critiques. Un exemple de didactisme dans la musique est le chant Ut queant laxis, utilisé par Guido d'Arezzo pour enseigner les syllabes de solfège. Vers le 19ème siècle, le terme didactique est également utilisé comme critique pour le travail qui semble être trop chargé avec des informations instructives, factuelles ou autrement éducatives, au détriment de la jouissance du lecteur. Edgar Allan Poe a même appelé le didactisme le pire des «hérésies» dans son essai The Poetic Principle.
