Maximilien de Robespierre
Maximilien François Marie Isidore Robespierre était un avocat et politicien français, et l'un des personnages les plus connus et les plus influents de la Révolution française. En tant que membre des États généraux, de l'Assemblée constituante et du Club jacobin, il préconise la peine de mort et l'abolition de l'esclavage, tout en soutenant l'égalité des droits, le suffrage universel et l'établissement d'une république. Il s'est opposé à la guerre avec l'Autriche et à la possibilité d'un coup d'Etat par le marquis de Lafayette. En tant que membre du Comité de la sécurité publique, il était une figure importante pendant la période de la révolution communément connue sous le nom de Règne de la Terreur, qui a pris fin quelques mois après son arrestation et son exécution en juillet 1794. Influencé par les philosophes des Lumières du XVIIIe siècle Comme Rousseau et Montesquieu, il était un articulateur capable des croyances de la bourgeoisie de gauche. Son adhésion et sa défense des vues qu'il a exprimées lui ont valu le surnom de l'incorruptible. Sa réputation a traversé des cycles.
