Il a été diffusé la même année qu'un single à double face avec une autre piste de l'album "Come Together". "Quelque chose" a été la première chanson des Beatles écrite par le guitariste principal George Harrison pour apparaître comme un côté A, et la seule chanson écrite par lui pour classer les charts américains alors qu'il était dans le groupe. Le single était également l'un des premiers célibataires des Beatles à contenir des pistes déjà disponibles sur un album LP. John Lennon et Paul McCartney, principaux auteurs-compositeurs du groupe, ont tous deux fait l'éloge de "Quelque chose" comme l'une des meilleures chansons que Harrison avait écrit, ou que le groupe avait à offrir.
