Fiord - une sorte de baie profonde, fortement à l'intérieur des terres, souvent ramifiée, avec des bords raides caractéristiques, formé par l'inondation des vallées post-glaciaires et glaciaires. Les fjords sont une caractéristique du paysage péri-natal de la côte norvégienne et écossaise, du Groenland, de l'Islande, de la Nouvelle-Zélande, de la péninsule du Labrador, de la Patagonie chilienne et de l'Alaska. Le nom de «fjord» est également appelé la baie Adriatique de Kotor au Monténégro, mais il n'est pas d'origine glaciaire - c'est une vallée fluviale inondée, ou rias. Les fossiles manquant de haute mer sont entre autres. au Danemark: Le Lammefjord a été largement drainé au cours des deux derniers siècles et transformé en un polder fertile. Dans le Lammefjord, comme déprimé, est le point le plus bas au Danemark.

Fiord – rodzaj głębokiej zatoki, mocno wcinającej się w głąb lądu, często rozgałęzionej, z charakterystycznymi stromymi brzegami, powstałej przez zalanie żłobów i dolin polodowcowych. Fiordy są charakterystycznym elementem peryglacjalnego krajobrazu wybrzeży Norwegii oraz Szkocji, Grenlandii, Islandii, Nowej Zelandii, półwyspu Labrador, chilijskiej Patagonii i Alaski. Błędnie nazwą „fiord” określa się również adriatycką Zatokę Kotorską w Czarnogórze, nie jest ona jednak pochodzenia lodowcowego – jest to zalana dolina rzeczna, czyli rias. Fiordy pozbawione wysokich brzegów występują m.in. w Danii: Lammefjord został w większej części osuszony w ostatnich dwóch stuleciach i zamieniony na żyzny polder. W Lammefjord, jako depresji, znajduje się najniższy punkt Danii.
