Graz est une ville du sud-est de l'Autriche, la capitale de la Styrie. La ville est située sur la rivière Mur, au pied des montagnes de Styry. Après Vienne, la deuxième plus grande ville d'Autriche. Le nom de la ville dérive du Gradec du mot slovène pour un petit château. Cela est dû au fait que la ville de Graz a été construite sur le site d'une ancienne colonie slave de ce nom. La première mention de Graz remonte à 881, quand il a été mentionné dans le document comme un bastion des dirigeants styriens. La confirmation du statut a été l'octroi des droits de la ville en 1281 par Rudolf I Habsburg. De la première moitié du XVe siècle jusqu'au XVIIe siècle, Graz fut le siège de la dynastie des Habsbourg de Styrie. Sous leur patronage aux 15ème et 16ème siècles la ville s'est bien développée, puis à Schlossberg la forteresse a été érigée pour la défense contre les Turcs. En 1586, la première université a été établie à Graz. En 1809, j'ai eu la chance d'assiéger les armées napoléoniennes. Graz est un important centre industriel, culturel et touristique. Nazwa miasta wywodzi się od Gradec słoweńskiego wyrazu oznaczającego mały zamek. Jest to związane z tym, że miasto Graz powstało na terenie wcześniejszej słowiańskiej osady o takiej właśnie nazwie. Pierwsze wzmianki o Grazu pochodzą z roku 881, kiedy w dokumencie wymienia się go jako warownię władców Styrii. Potwierdzeniem statusu było przyznanie praw miejskich w roku 1281 przez Rudolfa I Habsburga. Od pierwszej połowy XV wieku aż do XVII wieku Graz był siedzibą styryjskiej z gałęzi dynastii Habsburgów. Pod ich patronatem w XV i XVI wieku miasto dobrze się rozwijało, wtedy to na górze Schlossberg wzniesiono twierdzę dla obrony przed Turkami. W roku 1586 w Grazu powstał pierwszy uniwersytet. W 1809 roku twierdzę bez powodzenia oblegały wojska napoleońskie. Graz jest znaczącym ośrodkiem przemysłowym, kulturalnym i turystycznym. W mieście znajdują się 4 uniwersytety i 2 inne szkoły wyższe, do których uczęszcza razem ponad 40 tys.
