Hidromel
Mead é uma bebida alcoólica criada por fermentação de mel com água, e freqüentemente frutas, especiarias, grãos ou lúpulo. O teor alcoólico de hidromel pode variar de cerca de 8% de ABV para mais de 20%. A característica determinante do hidromel é que a maioria do açúcar fermentável da bebida é derivado do mel. Pode ser ainda, gasado ou naturalmente brilhante, e pode ser seco, semi-doce ou doce. Mead é conhecido por muitas fontes da história antiga em toda a Europa, África e Ásia. "Pode ser considerado como o antepassado de todas as bebidas fermentadas", Maguelonne Toussaint-Samat especulou, "antes do cultivo do solo".
