Uma premissa ou premissa é uma afirmação de que um argumento alegará induzir ou justificar uma conclusão. Em outras palavras: uma premissa é uma suposição de que algo é verdadeiro. Na lógica, um argumento requer um conjunto de duas frases declarativas conhecidas como premissas junto com outra frase declarativa conhecida como conclusão. Essa estrutura de duas premissas e uma conclusão formam a estrutura básica argumentativa. Os argumentos mais complexos podem usar uma série de regras para conectar várias premissas a uma conclusão ou derivar uma série de conclusões das premissas originais que, em seguida, atuam como premissas para obter conclusões adicionais. Um exemplo disso é o uso das regras de inferência encontradas na lógica simbólica. Aristóteles afirmou que qualquer argumento lógico poderia ser reduzido a duas premissas e uma conclusão.
