Adeziv
Un adeziv este orice substanță aplicată pe suprafețele materialelor care le leagă și le împiedică separarea. Termenul "adeziv" poate fi utilizat interschimbabil cu adeziv, ciment, mucilag sau pastă. Adjectivele pot fi utilizate împreună cu cuvântul "adeziv" pentru a descrie proprietățile pe baza formei fizice sau chimice a substanței, a tipului de materiale îmbinate sau a condițiilor în care este aplicată. Utilizarea adezivilor oferă multe avantaje față de tehnicile de legare, cum ar fi coaserea, fixarea mecanică, lipirea termică etc. Acestea includ capacitatea de a lega diferite materiale împreună, de a distribui stresul mai eficient în întreaga comună, de eficiența costurilor unui proces ușor mecanizat, o îmbunătățire a designului estetic și o flexibilitate sporită a designului. Dezavantajele utilizării adezive includ scăderea stabilității la temperaturi ridicate, slăbiciunea relativă a lipirii obiectelor mari cu o suprafață mică de lipire și dificultatea de a separa obiectele în timpul încercării. Adezivii pot fi găsiți în mod natural sau produși sintetic. Prima utilizare umană a unor substanțe asemănătoare adezivului a fost acum aproximativ 200.000 de ani.
