Apostazie
Apostazia ("apostazia") este o dezamăgire formală sau o abandonare sau renunțare la o religie de către o persoană. Cel care comite apostazia (sau cine apostazie) este cunoscut ca un apostat. Termenul de apostazie este folosit de sociologi pentru a însemna renunțarea și critica sau opoziția față de religia anterioară a unei persoane, într-un sens tehnic și fără conotație peiorativă. Termenul este folosit, ocazional, metaforic pentru a se referi la renunțarea la o credință sau o cauză non-religioasă, cum ar fi un partid politic, încredere în creier sau o echipă sportivă. Apostazia nu este, în general, o auto-definiție: foarte puțini credincioși anteriori se numesc apostați din cauza implicațiilor peiorative ale termenului. Multe grupuri religioase și unele state pedepsesc apostații. Apostații pot fi evitați de membrii fostei lor grupări religioase sau supuși pedepselor formale sau informale. Aceasta poate fi politica oficială a grupului religios sau pur și simplu poate fi acțiunea voluntară a membrilor săi.
