Blastula (din blastos grecesc) reprezintă o sferă goală a celulelor, denumită blastomeri, care înconjoară o cavitate interioară plină cu lichid numită blastocoele formate în timpul unui stadiu incipient al dezvoltării embrionare la animale. Dezvoltarea embrionilor începe cu un spermatozoid care fertiliză un ou pentru a deveni un zigot care suferă multe clivajuri pentru a se dezvolta într-o minge de celule numită morula. Numai atunci când se formează blastocoele, embrionul devine o blastură. Blastula precede formarea gastrulei în care se formează straturile germinale ale embrionului. O caracteristică comună a unei blastule vertebrate este aceea că constă dintr-un strat de blastomeri, cunoscut sub numele de blastoderm, care înconjoară blastocoele. La mamifere, blastul este denumit blastocist. Blastocistul conține o embrioblastă (sau masa internă a celulelor) care va da naștere în cele din urmă structurilor definitive ale fătului, și trophoblastului, care continuă să formeze țesuturile extra-embrionare.
