Date
Datele reprezintă un set de valori ale variabilelor calitative sau cantitative; datele reluate sunt date individuale. Datele din calcul sunt reprezentate într-o structură care este adesea tabulară, arbore sau grafic. Datele sunt de obicei rezultatele măsurătorilor și pot fi vizualizate utilizând grafice sau imagini. Datele ca un concept abstract pot fi privite ca fiind cel mai scăzut nivel de abstractizare, de la care derivă informațiile și apoi cunoștințele. Datele brute, adică datele neprocesate, se referă la o colecție de numere, caractere și reprezintă un termen relativ; prelucrarea datelor apare frecvent în etape, iar "datele procesate" dintr-o etapă pot fi considerate "date brute" ale următorului. Datele de câmp se referă la date brute care sunt colectate într-un mediu necontrolat in situ. Datele experimentale se referă la date care sunt generate în contextul unei investigații științifice prin observare și înregistrare. Datele de cuvinte sunt forma plurală tradițională a datei arhaice acum, neutru trecutul participle al îndrăznei latine, "a da", de aici "ceva dat".
