Decibelul este o unitate logaritmică folosită pentru a exprima raportul dintre două valori ale unei cantități fizice, adesea putere sau intensitate. Una dintre aceste cantități este adesea o valoare de referință, iar în acest caz decibla poate fi utilizată pentru a exprima nivelul absolut al cantității fizice. Numărul de decibeli este de zece ori mai mare decât logaritmul de bază pentru raportul dintre cele două puteri. Un decibel este o zecime dintr-un singur bel.
