Eseu
Eseurile sunt, în general, scrieri științifice scrise din punct de vedere personal, dar definiția este vagă, se suprapune cu cele ale unui articol, a unui broșură și a unei povestiri scurte. Eseurile pot consta dintr-o serie de elemente, printre care: critica literară, manifestările politice, argumentele învățate, observațiile vieții cotidiene, amintirile și reflecțiile autorului. Aproape toate eseurile moderne sunt scrise în proză, dar lucrările în versuri au fost numite eseuri. În timp ce brevița definește de obicei un eseu, lucrări voluminoase, cum ar fi un eseu al lui John Locke despre înțelegerea umană și un eseu al lui Thomas Malthus despre principiul populației, sunt exemple contrare. În unele țări, eseurile au devenit o parte majoră a educației formale.
